NEWS /ANOTHER FOREST FIRE IN RILA MONASTERY NATURE PARK
We regret to inform you that another forest fire is currently raging in the area of Rila Monastery Nature Park — the fourth one this summer alone.
The fire started on the southern slopes below Mount Baba, in the valley of the Iliyna River, and has already engulfed over 200 decares (approximately 50 acres) of forest. Valuable high-mountain ecosystems, wildlife habitats, and centuries-old forests are burning. Due to the extremely dry weather and high temperatures, the fire continues to spread rapidly.
On-site response teams include:
38 firefighters
6 staff members from Rila National Park
4 staff members from Rila Monastery Nature Park
We urge all mountain visitors to act with the utmost responsibility – do not light fires, do not discard cigarette butts, and do not use open flames, even in areas that seem safe!
One careless act can destroy the nature we all love and protect.
Nature has no voice – but we do. Let’s act responsibly.
Our deepest thanks go out to the teams battling the fire. We will keep you updated with the latest developments.
