NEWS /International Mountain Day
Today we celebrate International Mountain Day. The purpose of this day is to draw attention to the problems related to mountains.
Each year the focus is on a specific theme and for 2022 it is "Women Moving Mountains".
The choice of this particular topic is explained by the fact that the increasing variability of the climate, combined with the lack of investment in mountain agriculture and rural development, often pushes men to migrate elsewhere in search of an alternative way of life. Therefore, women have taken over many tasks previously performed by men, but women in the mountains are often "invisible", due to a lack of decision-making power and unequal access to resources.
The day can promote gender equality and therefore contribute to improving social justice, livelihoods and sustainability.
