Public discussion on the implementation of the Management Plan of Rila Monastery Nature Park

Today, in the building of the Visitor and Information Center of the Rila Monastery Nature Park, a public discussion was held on the implementation of the Park Management Plan, presented by the Park Directorate. According to the provisions of the Law on Protected Areas, it is necessary to conduct public discussions for the implementation of the management plans of the national and natural parks.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Kyustendil Regional Administration, Rila Municipality, Kyustendil Regional Forst Directorate, Regional environmental and water inspection Blagoevgrad, Basin Directorate "West White Sea Region", NEK "Dams and Cascades", Directorate of National Park "Rila", Directorate of Belasitsa Nature Park, etc.

The management plan of the "Rila Monastery" Nature Park was adopted in 2010 with Decision No. 121 /12.03.2010. of the Council of Ministers.

According to the report presented by the Directorate of the Park, regarding the implementation of the Management Plan, 37 projects have been implemented for the past thirteen year period, counting from 2010-2023 inclusive.

A large part of these projects have been implemented with the financial support of the Forestry Executive Agency and the Southwest State Enterprise. All other projects were carried out with grants under various programs, such as Operational Program "Environment 2007-2013", Operational Program "Environment 2014-2020", under the LIFE program 2009-2010, as well as two projects financed by the German Environmental Foundation DBU.

All these activities and implemented projects are aimed at fulfilling the ideal (long-term) goals set in the Management Plan, which correspond to the management goals required for this category of protected area according to the Law on Protected Areas. Ideal goals do not change over time and their achievement is also not limited by time frames.

The ideal (long-term) goals for the Nature Park are defined and prioritized by topic as follows:

Preservation of the religious and cultural-historical heritage

Conservation of natural components

Management of natural resources

Tourism Management

Interpretation and education

Partners and local communities

Park management
